These photos are from the Hillsman House on the Saylor's Creek Battlefield, located near Burkeville, Virgina. Saylor's Creek was the site of the last major battle of the Civil War. Lee surrendered at Appomattox three days later. At the time of the battle, the Hillsman house was owned by my great-great grandparents, James Moses Hillsman and Lucy Blanton Hillsman.
