DON'T FORGET YOUR SUMMER WORK!
LANGUAGE ARTS/READING SUMMER WORK Please, READ, READ, READ! Read as much as you can. Reading good books helps to improve your writing by exposing you to well written material and excellent vocabulary. I am going to require you to read "Tuck Everlasting" by Natalie Babbitt. You must also read at least one other Newberry Award Winning Book. You must write a one page paper on the book of your choice. The paper must include a summary of the book and a one paragraph reflection. Tell me why you liked or didn't like the book, how you could relate to a character in the book or why you think someone else should read the book. FIFTH GRADE RELIGION SUMMER WORK Memorize the Nicene Creed, The Act of Hope, The Act of Faith, and The Act of Love. THE NICENE CREED We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. THE ACT OF HOPEO my God, relying on your infinite mercy and promises, I hope to obtain pardon of my sins, the help of your grace and life everlasting, through the merits of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Redeemer. Amen THE ACT OF LOVE O my God, I love you above all things with my whole heart and soul, because you are all good and worthy of all my love. I love my neighbor as myself for the love of you. I forgive all who have injured me and I ask pardon of those whom I have injured. Amen. THE ACT OF FAITH O my God, I firmly believe that you are one God in three divine Persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I believe that your divine Son became man and died for our sins, and that he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe these and all the truths which the holy Catholic Church teaches, because you have revealed them, who can neither deceive nor be deceived. Amen
