Second Grade Summer Work Dear incoming second grade students and parents, Basic Skills-Required ● Be able to write your first and last name correctly using I encourage you to read often with your child. Allow your child to read to you but you should also read to them. It is important for a developing reader to hear what a fluent reader sounds like. Remember, the opportunity for reading does not have to be set aside time each day. Instead, use environmental print as a way to practice reading. Possible environmental print material includes reading cereal boxes, food labels, restaurant menus, and traffic signs. It’s important for your child to develop a love of reading. Let’s begin now by making reading a hobby your child enjoys! ● Students must read for 20 minutes five days a week. *Reading log and one book report are due the first day of school ● Addition facts to 18 • http://www.aaamath.com/grade1.htm If you want to get a jump start on the year take a look at the Sadlier Math website.
