Week of 9-6-10

This week we learned about the solar system, the color yellow, and crescents. We talked about how we are part of a solar system that is made up of eight sphere shaped planets that are all constantly going around the sun. We talked about how our planet Earth is the only planet in our solar system that people live on. We learned that some of the planets in our solar system are much bigger than earth and some are smaller. We found out that Earth and all of the other planets could fit inside Jupiter, it is so big!

We looked at a crescent and thought about what else it could look like. The kids got really creative and came up with a moon, moustache, smile, mushroom, a beard and a hat. We talked about how the moon is sometimes shaped like a crescent, but it can also look like a full circle or a hemisphere, which we learned is half of a sphere.

We made yellow collages with all of the yellow cut outs that were brought in. I think that everyone brought in cut outs this week! Almost everyone wore yellow and brought a sharing item too! We also made yellow play dough.

Next week we will learn about our planet Earth. Our color will be green, and our shape will be the quatrefoil. We will wear and share green on Friday.

Information about conference day on the 24th is going home today. Remember that school is closed on that day. I do like to have a conference with each parent, but if you are not available on Friday the 24th I am available everyday that week from 12:30 – 2:00. Just let me know when you will be available.

I hope I see you all at the All School Picnic tonight at Juniper Hills! Everyone always has a great time!
