Welcome to Kehoe-France Northshore's Weekly Info E-Mail

August 27, 2010

From Mr. Bilbe:

We are off to a great start this week with the addition of our preschool and Kindergarten students. Please scroll down to see the important dates and information related to your child(ren)'s classes.

Open House for grades 1-7 will be held on September 1 from 6:30 to 8:30. Unfortunately, we will not have the Edline login information available at Open House. We are busy tweaking the design and implementation. Please look for additional information in the coming weeks. Due to this delay, students will continue to bring test papers home on Wednesdays until the system is fully operational.

We are very excited to announce the possibility of a ensemble band at Kehoe-Francen Northshore. The potential band director will be here on Monday at 2:00 to speak with the 1st-7th grade students. Parents of students who are interested in having their child participate in the band are invited to attend as well. Remember this is for 4th-7th graders only.

With the great success of Saints last season, we have been receiving calls regarding school closure or dismissal during the season. As a matter of school policy, students will not have homework or test the day following any WEEK DAY HOME GAME. School will be open the day of and the day following these games. We have two home dates that meet this criteria. The Thursday, September 9 game vs. the Vikings and the Sunday night, October 31 game vs. the Steelers. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this policy.

Carpool line reminders: Preschool and Kindergarten carline begins at 2:45. Parents of students in grades 1-7 should line up at the stop sign on Patricia at Michelle. You will directed to enter the carline at 3:00. Please remember that you must follow the directive given by our carline duty teachers. Your cooperation not only helps carline run efficiently but most importantly ensures the safety of our students.

Uniform Shop: Regular days and hours will be Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:00 until 9:30 beginning Aug. 23rd. To those Parents who are waiting for special orders from Inka's Uniforms, we are receiving orders daily and will deliver to students ASAP. Thank you for your patience.

Please join us for Open House on Wednesday, September 1st from 6:30-8:30pm. This is a parent only Open House.

In answer to some of the questions about homework and testing during the Saints football season, it is Kehoe-France policy that there will be no homework or tests scheduled the day after a week day home game.

Flag Football: Practice for flag football will be every Tuesday and Thursday until 4:30 up to the time the games start. Please see the calendar on the website for upcoming games. www.kehoe-francens.com and click on the calendar.

Volleyball: Please see the school calendar for practices and games. This will be updated as needed.

In reading this week, we read the realistic fiction story, "Gloria Who Might Be My Best Friend." This is a delightfully upbeat story about making friends with the new kid on the block. It is the first story of the unit with the theme of friendship. Our reading skills this week were classifying and categorizing.

In language, we studied sentences. We identified complete sentences, studied the four kinds of sentences, and learned the correct way to use capitalization and punctuation.

In spelling, we learned to spell words with short vowel sounds. We also began using the Spelling Contract for homework. The student may choose, from a list of 27 activities, the four activities that they prefer to do for homework for the week. Parents need to sign a spelling contract form only if the student performed an oral or computer activity for homework. If there is any paper to be turned in, there is no need for a parent to sign a spelling contract form.
