(i.e., football game as opposed to a formal concert) - How do the physical demands of playing outdoors compare with indoors? This week we'll sight-read and work on another new song. How does it compare with modes or other systems? Class syllabus Essential questions: - How much skill can be developed within the semester allotted? - Can I develop enough to perhaps continue pursuing on my own in the future? - For more experienced players: what deficiencies in my playing need the most improvement? This week I will continue to assess everyone and assign material. Guitar students will be given a list of required songs from the book. Others working independently will agree to a plan of goals for the semester.

Class Syllabus ALL STATE JAZZ BAND REQUIREMENTS Essential Questions: What is Jazz? What other styles are represented in jazz literature? How does jazz interpretation differ from classical interpretation, including specific techniques unique to the jazz idiom. How does the large ensemble compare to the small jazz combo? How is the role of improvization effected? This week we will continue to read new material and assess individual players.
