Minutes of Meeting - March 24, 2010

Attendance Martha Davidson, Gail DeVeau, Debbie Giberson, Jim Heywood, Kimberley Macpherson, Kim Posavad, Kim Verkade Regrets: Susan Cooper1. Welcome and introductions 2. Approval of Minutes 3. Student’s Report: • we were joined by the Grade 9 Student Rep • the Student Council has many activities planned for the coming months • Fri., Mar. 26 - Jersey Day (wear your favourite jersey) • Wed., Mar. 31 - pick up garbage day • Mon., Mar. 29 - tickets go on sale for the June 9 Waterpark Day • Spirit Week kicks off with a salad theme: o Mon. - Ranch dressing (dress like a cowboy) o Tues. - Thousand Island dressing (dress tropical) o Wed. - Greek dressing (dress in togas) o Thurs. - House dressing (dress in school colours) • Thurs., Apr. 22 - Tropical Island School Dance. Council hopes to change the dance to April 29 as more props will be available to rent on that day. 4. Principal’s Report: • Chris Vollum is presenting here Thurs., April 1. Everything is set for this day. Flyers went out to the feeder schools and ads will be appear in next week's local paper. He will speak to the Juniors during period 3 and the Seniors during period 4. He will return in the evening at 7:00 to speak to parents. • Healthy Relationship workshop. The committee members are Stacey Amos, Maryann Ingram, Paul Beedling, Kristen Bastien, Joanne Hall, Jim Heywood, Ann Gilmore, Matt Wilson, Carol Daly, Sue Hamilton, Jeannie Larocque. The committee will meet on Fri., Mar. 26 to plan the workshop which will occur in May. Mr. Heywood will notify the parent council about volunteering. • There is a declining enrolment in High Schools this fall and a lower retirement rate which could affect the teaching staff next school year. Mr. DeVuono is retiring this May. • The Grade 10 Literacy test will be on April 8. The grade 9 students will write a practice test to prepare them for next year. • Students Aware are planning a Hike for Hospice on May 2. Students will put together teams to raise money for McNally House. • GSS raised almost $10 000 during the 24 Hour Famine for Haiti. • A bench will be placed in the front yard in memory of Russell Hay, a student who passed away last year. He would have graduated this year. 5. Treasurer’s Report • $ 1470.78 Balance Next meeting Wednesday, April 21, 2010.
