October/November/December  October:

TD Canada Trust Scholarships for Community Leadership
These scholarships are awarded to students in their final year of high school who have shown exceptional initiative in making a meaningful and lasting difference in their community. Each scholarship includes full tuition at any approved university or college in Canada, $7500 a year towards living expenses and an offer of a summer job at TD Canada Trust.
Deadline: October 30

Gene Luczkiw Spirit of Enterprise Award
The purpose of this Award is to foster, cultivate, and spread the “Spirit of Enterprise” amongst the youth of Niagara. This $1,000 Award, which will be awarded annually to a student attending school in the Niagara Region, is not only meant to honour the memory of Gene, but to continue his work. We are asking educators throughout Niagara to help us identify
students who clearly demonstrate the enterprising spirit in their lives. Gene defined Enterprise as “the taking of initiative to achieve a self-determined goal while sharing your achievement with others.” Details of the Award, eligibility, and how students can apply, can be found in Guidance.
Deadline for Submissions: October 31, 2009

November:

Wendy's Classic Achievers Scholarships: 2 National Winners - $5,000 each + trip to New York City, 8 Regional Awards of $5,000 each, 20 Regional awards of $1,000 each. 2 awards of $2,500 for Wendy's Crew members. Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident living in Canada who is graduating from a Canadian high school or CEGEP with the intent to enter college or university in the next academic year. Candidates will have achieved at least a 70% grade average in their previous year, have demonstrated involvement in local community, and have participated in at least one extracurricular activity. High schools of the top 10 winners will also benefit by being awarded $1,000 grants. Complete application online (note application must be completed in one sitting). Due date is November 2, 2009, although there is an "Early Bell" deadline of October 6, 2009 to be eligible for a $20 gift card.

Aboriginal Youth Scholarship: $5000. Awarded to an aboriginal student who best demonstrates skill, talent, excellence, and enthusiasm in pursuing a future in broadcasting. Please see

Queen's Major Entrance Scholarships/Awards:
1) CHERNOFF FAMILY AWARD - 8 awards at $12,000 - 15,000 x 4 years (for students from rural or remote areas of Canada)
2) DR. IRIS MAY MARSH MEMORIAL AWARD - 4 awards at $12,000 x 4 years
3) BANK OF MONTREAL AWARD - 3 awards at $10,000 x 4 years. superior academic ability - 90% plus. The candidate must have demonstrated financial need, leadership, and involved in school and community activities. Candidates must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident entering the first year of a post-secondary undergraduate degree program for the first time.

Queen's University - Chancellor's Scholarship: $9000 x 4 years (50 available). A candidate must be nominated by the school Principal or Principal's delegate (i.e. Vice-Principal, Guidance Counsellor). The candidate student should rank at least in top 5% academically - 90% plus, must be Canadian citizen or permanent resident, and must demonstrate leadership, creativity and original thinking. Violet Richardson Soroptimist Award: The award winner receives $250.00 (Locally) and $250.00 is donated to her volunteer organization. The winner is then eligible to compete at the Eastern Canada Region Level for $1,000 U.S. with an additional equal amount contributed to her volunteer organization. The candidate will be a female, aged 14-17 who has demonstrated significant and noteworthy accomplishments as a volunteer. The candidate will be caring, compassionate, creative and committed to making the world a better place. This individual will have demonstrated initiative at identifying and solving a problem. January  BBPA NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS(Formerly the BBPA Harry Jerome Scholarships): You are eligible for a BBPA National Scholarship if you are a Black youth who is:
1. A Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
2. Between 17 and 30 years of age as of September 1st of the year in which the scholarship is applied for;
3. Enrolled in full-time degree (undergraduate or graduate), diploma or certificate program at an accredited
Canadian college or university for the academic year commencing in the year in which the scholarship
application is submitted. Students commencing their studies in the Fall are eligible.
Selection Criteria:
1. High academic achievement;
2. Financial Need;
3. Recognized contribution to the Black community.

University of Guelph: National Scholarship Program

Twelve scholarships valued at $32 000 each and include a research assistantship position and mentorship by one of Guelph's leading professors. These scholarships recognize academic excellence, innovation, community and school engagement, and leadership. There is a fairly extensive list of requirements, please see below for more information.

Canisius College Music Scholarship: $2,000 renewable scholarships are available to incoming freshman and transfer students. It is not necessary to be a music major or minor to apply for a music scholarship. Requirements include admission to Canisius College as a full-time student Fall 2009 semester
High school music performance experience (solo or ensemble),
application and application tape/CD (five minutes total), two contrasting styles of music: Vocal – two classical or one classical and one musical theater, accompaniment required.
Instrumental – selections of movements or etudes are acceptable. Solo audition by invitation pending review of application and tape/CD. Applicants must include two letters of reference. One should be from a music teacher. Other suggested sources include high school principal, teacher, guidance counselor, community/church leader. Upon review of documentation and tape by the scholarship committee, the final pool of applicants will be invited on campus for an audition and interview to be held in February 14, 2009. Final selection will be made by the scholarship committee. (Those residing outside a 300 mile radius can audition by tape/CD. Call the music office for requirements.)

Ontario Medal for Young Volunteers: Up to 10 Medals presented by the Lieutenant Governor at a ceremony in the Provincial Legislature. Nominees must be between 15 and 24 years of age, reside in Ontario, contribute significant time and service without pay to a charity, not-for-profit organization or an individual. Nominees must have made a sustained and innovative contribution in the community, demonstrating leadership, initiative, perseverance, originality, as well as the promise of long-term improvement or greater public awareness of the community activity. The nominee will have proven to be a role model attracting others to volunteering, have inspired and helped peers and community as a whole, to better understand and appreciate the importance of volunteering. The Talk About Canada Scholarship Quiz: 1-$5000 prize, 20-$1000 prizes, 40-$500 prizes. Students must correctly answer fifty multiple choice questions about Canada to be eligible. This contest runs from January 19 until March 23. For more information please see www.talkaboutcanada.ca.

Top 20 Under 20 National Awards and Mentoring Program: Up to $2000 towards an educational experience. Candidates will have demonstrated significant amounts of Innovation, Leadership and Achievement in their life, school, community, or country. They will be pursuing an education or training, like Canadian secondary, post-secondary or training education, including training or apprenticeship programs, college, and university. Applications must include the endorsement of an "innovation sponsor". Candidates must be under 20 years of age as of year end, and be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant. An individual may only win award once.

Canisius College Studio Art Scholarship: Numerous $2,000.00 studio art scholarships are available to incoming first-year students. The scholarships are renewable for four years. Requirements include admission to Canisius as a full-time student for Fall 2009 semester, a slide sheet or compact disc (no zip discs, please) of 10 to 20 works in any medium, within the last two years, properly labeled. Two letters of recommendation from teachers, counselor, community/church leader. One of the two letters should be from an art teacher familiar with the applicant’s work who can comment on the student’s developing art skills.

Casino Niagara Dependent Bursary Benefit: $800 per dependent per calendar year, for up to two dependents. available to any full-time or part-time employee of Casino Niagara who has a dependent child taking full-time post-secondary courses towards the completion of an undergraduate degree or diploma.

Casino Rama's Awards for Excellence Program: $1,500 - $5,000. Candidates must be aboriginal -permanent resident of Ontario -have completed at least one (1) full year of his/her apprenticeship in an accredited program -be currently continuing their course of study in the skilled trades. Herbert H. Carnegie Future Aces Foundation Scholarship Opportunity: 25 scholarships offered at $1,000 each. Potential recipients will exhibit exemplary citizenship qualities, be in need of financial assistance, and provide evidence of the potential for success. Toyota Earth Day Scholarship Program: 15 awards of $5000 each annually across Canada. Candidates must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident who has demonstrated outstanding environmental commitment, community service and leadership during the course of their studies. They must have maintained a high level of academic achievement and be a High school graduate proceeding to Post-secondary studies in Canada.

Canisius College Scholarship and Grants for Canadian Students:
For the 2009-2010 academic year, students who display exceptional academic achievement will compete for a limited number of Presidential Scholarships ($25,500 per year for four years) and Ignatian Scholarships ($20,000 per year for four years). Applicants who apply for admission by November 15 will be given priority consideration for these scholarships.
Academic Scholarship (Unlimited Number Awarded)
High School averages are based on the Ontario grading system.
Trustee's Scholarship:
$17,000 per year for full-time students living on-campus
$16,000 per year for full-time students living off-campus
Dean's Scholarship:
$13,000 per year for full-time students living on-campus
$12,000 per year for full-time students living off-campus
Benefactor's Scholarship
$9,500 per year for full-time students living on-campus
$8,500 per year for full-time students living off-campus
Academic Scholarship
$6,000 per year for full-time students living on or off-campus
How to Apply: Eligibility for these merit-based awards is determined upon acceptance for admission. No separate scholarship application is required.
Students are encouraged to apply for financial aid, using the Canisius College Canadian Financial Aid Application available at the Canisius College Financial Aid Office.

Canisius College Art History Scholarship: Canisius College offers art history scholarships for new students entering fall 2009 and planning to major in art history. Students who demonstrate an interest in studying the history of art are eligible for $2,000 per year, guaranteed for four years.
Requirements include admission to Canisius College as a full-time student for Fall 2009, letter of application from the student, describing extent of experience with art history and outlining reasons for planning to major in the discipline.
Note: there is no separate application form.
Two letters of recommendation from teachers, including one which discusses the student’s exposure to and experience with art history, and an interview, either in person or by phone, with the Canisius art history faculty.

Kin Canada Bursaries - Hal Rogers Endowment Fund: $1,000 bursaries. A candidate will be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant, planning to register as a full-time student in the upcoming year at a recognized University, Community College, Technical Institute or other post-secondary institution for advanced learning. The candidate will have demonstrated high ideals and qualities of citizenship. Please see

Terry Fox Humanitarian Award: up to $7,000 renewable for 4 years. Candidates must demonstrate the highest ideals and qualities of citizenship, courage in overcoming obstacles, involvement in humanitarian service, participation in sport, fitness and community service, and must be a graduating student, going on to a Canadian post-secondary institution. A candidate will be Canadian citizen or have landed immigrant status. For more information and an application please see

Toyota Earth Day Scholarship Program: Proud to recognize and celebrate the outstanding environmental contributions that youth in Canada make in their communities. Twenty awards of $5000 each will be presented to graduating students from across Canada who have achieved excellence in academic and extracurricular activities, and demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the environment. A national winner will also receive a Panasonic notebook computer and a National Award.

University of Guelph Lincoln Alexander Chancellor's Scholarships: 2 awards of $26,000 (payable over 4 years of study) plus a $6,000 stipend for summer research assistantship. Open to entering students of academic distinction who are Aboriginal, persons with a disability or members of a racial minority, and who have made significant contributions to their schools and communities and demonstrated the potential to become leaders in society. Students cannot apply directly for this award. Nominations must be made by each high school. Each high school can nominate one student who cannot be the President's Scholarship nominee. The nomination process is a two-part process: (a) the school's nomination and (b) the student's supporting documentation. Please see guidance for more information.

University of Guelph President's Scholarship: 12 awards of $26,000 (payable over 4 years of study) plus a $6,000 stipend for summer research assistantship. University of Toronto - Vari Scholarship/Bursary for Future School Teachers (Victoria College): $50,000 over a 5 year period - 2 or 3 awards given annually. Nominee must demonstrate through extra-curricular activities, a genuine interest and commitment to teaching and have high academic achievement. There must be evidence of financial need and the nominee must plan to attend U. of T. as a Victoria College student. In addition, the nominee must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada who is graduating from an accredited Ontario Secondary School.

RBC Scholarship for new Canadians

Valueof Award: One of twelve scholarships, each worth $3,500.
Eligibility:
1. Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada who have immigrated to Canada on or after January 1, 1999
2. Students in their graduating year of Canadian high school or CEGEP, and who intend to enrol or enter a publicly funded Canadian college or university as a full-time student in Fall 2010
3. Students who achieved at least a 70% average in their previous year of study

Deadline for applications:
February 1, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. EST

Burger King Scholars Program: $1,000. Candidates must be a Canadian or U.S. resident who maintains a minimum B average while working part-time an average of 15 hours/week for 40 weeks/year (part-time year round). Candidates must provide evidence of participation in community service and/or co-curricular activities. Candidates must demonstrate financial need and must enroll in college or university program. Scholarships also available for employees of Burger King.

York University Governor's Awards of Distinction- John S. Proctor Entrance Scholarship(1),Alumni Entrance Scholarship(2),
Bruce Bryden Entrance Scholarship (1):
$32,000 ($8,000 x 4 years)plus cost of residence accommodation for first year (approximately $4,000). Candidates must be in final year of study in a secondary school, seeking admission into first-year undergraduate study at York University in any discipline. A candidate must be a Canadian citizen/Permanent Resident/Protected Person with a minimum entrance average of 90%. A candidate must provide evidence of accomplishments in community service, leadership, the arts or sports, or excellence in other areas of individual endeavour which demonstrate the wholeness of the person and grace of character. York University - School of Kinesiology and Health Science Entrance Scholarships: $2,100 for each - Bobby Orr Entrance Scholarship and Kinesiology & Health Science Entrance Scholarship. Open to a secondary school student seeking admission to the first year of Kinesiology and Health Science undergraduate program. Candidates must have high academic standing, show evidence of extracurricular participation, be an Ontario resident and a Canadian citizen/Permanent Resident/Protected Person. The candidate must have demonstrated financial need (for Kinesiology and Health Science Entrance Scholarship only).

University of Waterloo - Faculty of Mathematics National Scholarships: 14 National Scholarships from $14,000 - $25,000 over 4 years. These scholarships are awarded to students (Canadian or Permanent Resident) registering to study Math or Computer Science in the Faculty of Mathematics and who have demonstrated superior academic achievement and original thought. They must have an entrepreneurial or pioneering spirit and have demonstrated interpersonal skills. Please see www.math.uwaterloo.ca/Scholarships for more information. J. V. Findlay Scholarship: $1000.00. Must be an Ontario resident and a graduate of secondary school who is pursuing studies in Occupational Health and Safety, Workplace Environment, or a related program at an Ontario University or College of Applied Arts and Technology, leading to improvements in health and safety for the workers of Ontario. Zonta International Young Women in Public Affairs Award: $500 and up to $2500. Open to young women who can demonstrate evidence of active commitment to volunteerism, leadership achievements, international awareness, and who are dedicated to advancing the status of women worldwide. Due date is February 19.

University of Western Ontario - National/President's Scholarship Program: Up to 6 President's Entrance - $34,000, over 4 years with first year room & board. Faculty Entrance - up to 8 - $23,000, over 4 years with first year residence. One Beryl Ivey Continuing Entrance Award valued at $64 000. Up to 50 National Merit - $2,000 for one year. Recipients will have displayed all-around excellence including outstanding academic performance (90% +), creative & innovative thought, exceptional extracurricular achievement, and commitment to 'active citizenship' through contributions made to life of school and community. A Nominee must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, who is applying as a full-time student. Only four nominations per school will be accepted. Please see

Anishinaabemowin Teg Inc. Memorial Scholarship Awards: Available to Elementary, Secondary, and Post-Secondary Students studying the Ojibwe Language. Candidates must be presently enrolled in a languge course, as a full-time student with good attendance. Candidates must show evidence of involvement in community and/or extra-curricular activities. Candidates must be recommended by an Education Counsellor, Teacher, Elder, Principal or Vice-Principal and they must be dedicated to maintain the continuum of the Anishinaabe language. Please see

University of Western Ontario - Huron University College National Scholarship: 9 awards of $20,000 over 4 years. Candidates must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants with strong academic records (90% minimum) in a wide variety of courses from the liberal arts and sciences. Candidates must demonstrate outstanding achievement in volunteer/community service, athletics, the arts, and/or student life. Please see www.huronuc.ca for more information and an application.

Mathieu Da Costa Challenge: If you are between the ages of 9 and 18, you are eligible to participate in the Mathieu Da Costa Challenge. Submit an original piece of writing in English or French (e.g. short story, poem, song, play, illustrated story, essay, etc.) or artwork (including computer generated artwork) celebrating the contributions made by Canadians of Aboriginal, African or other backgrounds to the building of Canada. Each winner will receive:
an all-expenses paid trip to Winnipeg in April 2009 (accompanied by a parent/guardian) including transportation, meals and hotel, VIP tickets to the Mathieu Da Costa Awards Ceremony, a Certificate of Achievement, and other prizes.

Business On The Move Scholarship For Young Women: 2 awards of $250. Applicant must be a female resident of the Niagara Region, a graduate and will be entering a first year business/entrepreneur program at a post-secondary institution (eg. College, University, private school). To apply, candidates must provide the following: Typed personal statement (250 words), brief biography, reasons for business career, career goals and future community involvement, 2 letters of reference, an Outline of involvement in school and community activities, a Cover sheet with name, address, phone, high school name, program, date and signature. Canadian Securities Administrators Financial Fitness Challenge: $750. Complete 10-question quiz available on website and be entered to win a $750.00 scholarship. Please see
www.financialfitnesschallenge.ca for more information. Contest runs from Feb. 15 to April 15 on the website listed above.

Federated Women's Institute of Ontario Dorothy Futcher Scholarship: $350.00. Candidates must be nominated by a 4-H leader. Candidates are students who have successfully completed 6 or more 4-H Club Projects, have shown steady improvement and personal growth during the course of club work and may have given leadership and carried on club work of high quality, and must be a full-time student. Candidates will be entering first year post-secondary institution studies and may apply only once in any one year. Candidates must have an average of 75% to receive full scholarship. Should other qualifications be equal, the Scholarship may be awarded to club members whose parent or guardian is a Women's Institute member. Please see www.fwio.on.ca for more information.

March   Carleton University Prestige Scholarships: 10 Chancellor's Scholarships - $30,000 over 4 years, 5 Nortel Networks Scholarships of Excellence - $20,000 over 4 years, 5 Richard Lewar Scholarships - $21,500 over 4 years, 1 Riordon Scholarship and 2 Cognos Scholarships. Priority given to applicants who have displayed academic excellence (90%+), demonstrated leadership roles in extracurricular activities throughout secondary school, and who have taken part in community service. Students must maintain A- average for scholarship to be renewed. Please see www.carleton.ca/awards

Phi Delta Kappa Prospective Educator Award - University of Toronto Chapter: $100 award +a year's student membership in Phi Delta Kappa International. Winners are then eligible for the International level award which ranges from $500 US to renewable awards of up to $5000 over 4 years. Candidates must be high school seniors intending to pursue an education career or undergraduate students who are members of PDK and enrolled in an education program at a college or university. Academic standing, written essay, letters of recommendation, and evidence of leadership activities are also required.

CHAMPLAIN SCHOLARSHIP
BOARD OF GOVERNORS' LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP
TRENT UNIVERSITY SPECIAL ADMISSIONS SCHOLARSHIP:
Trent University's most prestigious scholarships, the Champlain Scholarship, the Board of Governor's Leadership Scholarship, and the Trent University Special Admissions Scholarship are awarded to Canadian students entering their first year of study. Recipients of these scholarships are students who have displayed exceptional academic and extra-curricular achievement and are likely to have a significant impact on the life of Trent University.
The Champlain Scholarship has a value of $5,000 in the first year, and $5,000 in each of the succeeding three years providing that scholarship standing of 80% or more in five full credits or equivalent is achieved each year. Two Champlain Scholarships are awarded each year. Total value over four years of $20,000.
The Board of Governors' Leadership Scholarship has a value of $4,500 in the first year, and $4,500 in each of the succeeding years providing that scholarship standing of 80% or higher is maintained in five full credits or equivalent each year. One scholarship is awarded each year. Total value over four years of $18,000.
The Trent University Special Admissions Scholarship has a value of $3,750 for the first year and $3,750 in each of the succeeding three years providing that scholarship standing of 80% or higher is maintained in five full credits or equivalent each year. Ten Special scholarships are awarded each year. Total value over four years of $15,000.
One application makes you eligible for any of the above scholarships. Previous recipients of these scholarships presented entrance marks of over 90%. If you are not awarded one of these scholarships, you will automatically be awarded a National Renewable Entrance Scholarship provided your entrance marks are at least 80%. Please see

Global Citizen scholarship

In recognition of the importance of global awareness and education, EF is awarding the EF Global Citizen Scholarship to high school students (current Sophomores and Juniors) who are devoted to breaking down barriers of language, culture and geography by embarking on a deep cross-cultural journey to China this summer! The students who receive the scholarship will be exploring the concept of education at a global level. Vicky Hull "Young Women of Distinction" Awards
Started in 1991 in recognition of Vicky Hull who was a young woman active in the YWCA of St. Catharines, the Vicky Hull Youth Leadership Awards were established in her memory to honour young women who, like Vicky, committed themselves to others by displaying a leadership role. Again this year, the YWCA Niagara Region will present the Vicky Hull “Young Women of Distinction” Awards to correspond with the YWCA’s annual Women of Distinction Awards, honouring women throughout Niagara Region who have distinguished themselves by their personal achievements. The Young Women of Distinction Awards will be presented to three young women who display strong leadership qualities in the categories of Arts and Culture, Community Service and Sport, Recreation and Leisure. Applicants must be young women currently attending Secondary School and residents of the Niagara Region. Applications can be picked up in guidance, the form must be filled out in full and returned to the YWCA Niagara Region no later than March 5th, 2010 by 4:00 p.m.

The Dalton Camp Award: $5000. The Dalton Camp Award will go to the winner or winners of an essay competition on the link between democratic values and the media in Canada. Rotary Youth Leadership Awards: All-Expenses-paid week of leadership training, June 14-20. Jim Fielding Memorial Bursary: Maximum award of $15,000.
Established by his children, Norinne, Murray and Craig, to aid students at Laurentian University. Valued at a maximum of $15,000, equivalent to the cost of tuition, cost of residence (if applicable), Super Saver Meal Plan and cost of books and equipment, this bursary which is renewable for three years, is awarded to aid a full-time student who, without this financial assistance, would not be able to attend Laurentian University. It will be awarded to students who may have struggled academically because of financial and personal challenges that have limited their ability to concentrate on their studies. Recipients cannot be eligible to hold any other awards with a value greater than $1,000. Preference will be given to students pursuing applied studies. Nomination by a teacher, guidance counsellor, or professional speaking of the student’s potential and background is required. Students need not be a proven scholar. The recipients must also submit a letter outlining their financial limitations which hinder their ability to complete their university degree. The recipients must be Canadian citizens and residents of Ontario as defined by the Ontario Student Assistance Program. Students must satisfy the passing-grade requirements of their degree, maintain full-time status, and complete 30 credits (the normal academic workload) in a 12 month period to be eligible to renew the bursary. St. Catharines Standard Boy's High School Basketball Tournament Bursary: Applicant must have been a player on a team that has participated in the Tournament and must have achieved the necessary academic standing to have been accepted at a Canadian or U.S. post-secondary institution that requires at least an OSSD for admission. Applications will be judged mainly on financial need but other factors such as character and academic standing will also be considered. $1000. Qualified applicants must either be a graduating high school senior or have graduated from high school within the past two years. To receive a scholarship, applicants must be enrolled in a college-level program, university or an accredited automotive technical program through either a CAMPE (Canadian Association of Motive Power Educators) college or a CARS approved institute. The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame / Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life Scholarship Program: $1000 a year for four years. This scholarship opportunity is available to high school students who are aspiring to a career in medicine or the health sciences. The value of the scholarship is $1000 per year toward a four-year undergraduate degree at any accredited Canadian university. The scholarship is administered by the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC), and the selection is made by a committee of university representatives chosen by the AFMC. Recipients will receive the award annually for up to four years, or until the scholar obtains his/her first degree, whichever occurs first. If the recipient is enrolled in a three-year degree program, a request may be made to apply the fourth year of the scholarship to the first year of a professional degree program in medical/health sciences.

OTIP (Ontario Teachers Insurance Plan) Bursary Program: 12 bursaries (6 female, 6 male) of $1500 each. To be eligible to win, you must meet the following criteria at the time of the selection: Your parent, grandparent or legal guardian must be insured through an individual or group policy of an insurance plan or program provided by OTIP. You must be a full-time post-secondary student at a Canadian college or university for the upcoming academic year. Only one application per person will be accepted. Applicants are only eligible to receive an OTIP Bursary once. Six male and six female applicants will be randomly drawn by June 30, 2010, from all eligible applications received. The selected applicants will be contacted by telephone and will be required to submit proof of age and proof of attendance at a Canadian college or university on a full-time basis for the upcoming academic year. The selected applicants will be asked an arithmetic skill-testing question, which must be answered correctly.
Should any of the initially selected applicants either not provide proof of age, or proof of attendance, not correctly answer the skill-testing question, or have previously received an OTIP Bursary, they will be deemed ineligible. Should this occur, another randomly selected applicant will be chosen. This process will continue until a winner is declared.
Only the selected applicants will be notified by OTIP.

ECO Canada Scholarship Program: four awards for Canadian students annually of $2,500 to be used towards their first-year tuition in an environmental program at any Canadian post-secondary institution. Scholarships are awarded to individuals who have shown leadership in her or his community in the areas of environmental protection, conservation and preservation of natural resources, or environmental sustainability. Qualified students are chosen based on a reference letter and an essay about their environmental accomplishments and ambitions.
The top candidate each year is awarded an additional $2,500 through the Edit Petrovic Memorial Scholarship. Funding for the scholarships come from ECO Canada, and friends and family of Edit Petrovic. To qualify for the scholarship program, students must: Have been accepted to an environmental program in a Canadian post-secondary institution, have graduated high school within the last 12 months, have demonstrated leadership in their communities relevant to environmental issues, and

The Sabrina Shannon Memorial Award: Two awards of $1,000 each will be granted: one for a student entering their first year of post-secondary education, the other for a student who is already enrolled in a post-secondary program. Who was Sabrina Shannon? The award is dedicated to the life of Sabrina Shannon, an inspirational teenager who tragically suffered a fatal anaphylactic reaction in 2003. Her parents, Mike Shannon and Sara Shannon, have kept Sabrina’s spirit alive by advocating for safer school environments. Sabrina’s Law, landmark legislation passed in Ontario in 2005, continues to influence school board policies in Canada. What are the criteria? Applications will be evaluated on a submission essay which describes your efforts to raise awareness about severe allergies and anaphylaxis in your school or community. Your essay should highlight: A strong commitment to educating others The number of people reached directly or indirectly The quality and creativity of the education efforts

Queen Elizabeth II Aiming for the Top Scholarship: A minimum of $100 up to a maximum of $3500 per year. Available for students who have shown academic excellence in high school. If you wish to be considered for the maximum amount of scholarship available, you must complete the 2010-2011 OSAP Application for Full-Time Students. This is a renewable scholarship. Students who keep their grades up and maintain the scholarship eligibility criteria can receive the scholarship for up to four years in total. Ontario Horticultural Trades Foundation Scholarship: 5 awards of $1000 for students going to university or college. 10 awards of $500 for students who take a horticulture apprenticeship within two years of graduating high school. Public Service Alliance of Canada Scholarship Program: up to 17 scholarships ranging from $1000 to $4000. The program consists of 14 scholarships for dependant children of PSAC members and three scholarships for PSAC members who are returning to university, college or a recognized institute of higher learning on a full-time basis. PSAC members must be in good standing as of March 31st of the current year. The scholarships are not restricted to first-year students. No more than one scholarship will be awarded to the same family in a given year and no applicant will be awarded a scholarship more than once. The scholarships are awarded primarily based on the merit of the 800-word essay according to the topic determined for the given year. United Steelworkers Secondary School Scholarship: 6 scholarships in Ontario of $1000 each. The conditions of these scholarships are:
(1) The scholarships shall be awarded to members, or sons and daughters of members, of the United Steelworkers.
(2) Recipients of scholarships must be prepared to show their level of education is sufficient to allow admittance to an approved institution of higher education, such as university, technological institute, nursing school, etc. People who have already completed some post-secondary studies are NOT eligible for this award.
(3) The student must complete an application form which may be obtained from the office of the District Director or from the Regional Representative of the United Steelworkers in the community.

a) Is there a role for unions today? Your essay should examine what role unions play in today’s economy, and what kind of difference being a member of a union can make. You might want to interview your mother or father about the history of the Steelworkers in their workplace and what difference the Union has made in their lives. What areas or issues could the Union better address in the workplaces of today? How can the union build support of members and their families?
b) Organizing locally and globally: As corporations merge and grow, unions too are seeking out partners and entering into strategic alliances. Discuss in your essay how these global alliances can help workers better address the challenges of, for example, poverty, the spread of AIDS/HIV, or climate change. Pick one of these areas to explore in your paper.
c) Your vote is your say: If democracy is so important to us, why aren’t more people voting in elections? Discuss in your paper why politics and participation in political action is important to our democratic society. What do you think Steelworkers and others can do to help encourage young people to become politically active? What could the Union do differently or better?

Wado-Kai Student Development Fund: 2 awards of $500 across Canada. The Wado Kai Student Development Fund offers two annual scholarships of $500 each. All qualifying secondary students in Canada are eligible for selection.
To qualify for selection the following criteria must be met:
The applicant must be involved in the Shintani Wado Kai Karate Federation. If the applicant is a parent or guardian of the student, the application will be judged on the parent’s or guardian’s accomplishments in the Shintani Wado Kai Karate Federation and their Sensei’s recommendation as well as the student’s admission grades.
The student must be applying to a post-secondary institution such as university, technological institute, teacher’s college, nursing school etc.
The student’s level of education must be sufficient to allow admittance to the post-secondary institution. Proof of acceptance into the institute will be required before the scholarship is released.
All applications are judged on three equally weighted categories:

• Academic accomplishments
• Extra-curricular activities
• Martial arts achievement

AIA-The Marion Roberts Memorial Scholarship: $500. For children or spouses or employees of AIA Member Companies. The AIA/Marion Roberts Memorial Scholarship Awards were developed by the Automotive Industries Association of Canada to provide financial assistance and encouragement to enable students to further their education at the post secondary school level, thereby improving their potential for personal fulfillment and for making a meaningful contribution to society. Applicants must be the dependent child or spouse, of a full-time employee in an active AIA member company in good standing. Harmony Movement Scholarship: 10 scholarships of $1000. The Harmony Movement was fromed in 1994 to combat inter-racial intolerance. Its mandate is to promote diversity and to combat all forms of discrimination that act as social and cultural barriers to individuals' full participation in society. Applicants must be full-time students, under 21 years of age, and graduating from their final year at a Canadian high school or CEGEP (in Quebec). All applicants must provide proven admittance at a post-secondary institution for the fall of the year of application.
Scholarships may not be deferred to another term or school year.Applicants must agree to be publicly acknowledged and if awarded the scholarship, must provide a photo and brief biography.Members of the Board of Directors or staff of the Harmony Movement and their immediate family members are not eligible for the scholarship.
