Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year.
Homework Hero is the site you will visit to see weekly classroom activities, present and future homework assignments. Come back often during the week and plan your schedule effectively. Weekly assignments are also posted on the board every Monday. _________________________________________________________________________________
Students are enrolled in a high school course. In order to receive credit for this course, they have to successfully pass the course along with a mid-term exam given after the second quarter, and a final exam given at the end of the school year.
SPANISH I
High school level course for credit.
This course is intended for non-Spanish speaking students. The objective of this course is to introduce students to the Spanish language. The emphasis is on oral communication and everyday expressions. The content may include, but not be limited to, beginning skills in listening and speaking, introduction to reading, writing,fundamentals of grammar and culture. Students are expected to study vocabulary daily.
SPANISH II
Successful completion of this course results in one High School credit.
Spanish II will reinforce and enhance previously acquired basic skills in Spanish I. It will continue developing communicative skills and cross-cultural understanding. The students will increase their listening, reading, writing and oral skills. They will work in small groups on a variety of activities, and will make oral presentations individually and in groups using the vocabulary and grammatical patterns they learn.

1. Be attentive and involved in class, conform to rules of student conduct, attend school regularly and on time, and refrain from interfering with the education of others.
2. Check the Homework Hero website to be informed about what is expected of you when you are absent from school or for further information about present and future homework assignments.
3. Use a planner to record present and upcoming assignments, quizzes, tests or projects.
4. Be responsible completing assignments and make-up work on time.
5. Keep track of individual grades and overall academic progress.
6. Use the QUIA website and other extra resources offered to enhance and facilitate the learning process.
7. Ask questions when you do not understand, review/study on a daily basis, and bring all supplies to class.
CLASS RULES
1. Be seated and working when the second bell rings.
2. Raise your hand to speak and wait to be called on.
3. Turn in all work on time.
4. Ask for permission to leave your seat.
5. Keep your area clean and align desks before leaving the classroom.
6. No eating, drinking or chewing gum.
ASSIGNMENTS:
Assignments are due on schedule. If an extension is needed, an e-mail or a note from the parents is required.
Present and future homework assignments are also posted on the board every week.
CONSEQUENCES FOR BAD BEHAVIOR:
1. Verbal warning
2. Writing assignment to be signed by a parent
3. Phone call to parent
4. Pre-detention
5. One hour detention after school.
6. Referral
MAKE UP WORK:
Two class days are given to make-up work for each day a student is absent.
EXTRA HELP:
Tutoring is available through the peer counseling program.
Forms are available in class.
GRADES:
- There are frequent quizzes and a test after each unit.
- Pop quizzes will be given at any time.
Grades will be calculated as follows:
40% Oral and written unit tests
20% Quizzes / Pop quizzes
10% Classwork
10% Special projects
5% Oral proficiency
5% Homework
10% Participation:
The participation grade takes attentiveness into consideration as well as active involvement in class activities.
