Welcome to the Science/Tech Announcement Page for School Year 2009-2010!!!!! This site is available to help all PreK 3 through Kindergarten parents know what is HAPPENING in Science/Tech each week. I will be making the activities and special sites available to you as we use them. I ask one favor, which is that you let me show it to the children first. I am giving you the information so you can allow them to show you what they have learned. I appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

Pre Kindergarten - Mrs. Briggs and Ms. Hurler	HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! 1/8-This week I met with the PreK on Friday as I was at a conference on Wednesday. We decided that they wanted to see how their pumpkin plants were doing so we took another trip to the greenhouse. Our plants had really grown but there were other plants growing quicker(our hydroponic unit plants). 1/13-Today Mrs. Meier brought down her bag of tricks and in it was many weather instruments. She brought something to meausre what the temperature is (it stayed in our room), something to measure how quickly the wind is blowing, and how much it has rained or snowed. 1/20-In honor of the Book Fair, we read some books today about what happens in the night when we are sleeping. We learned about Snowmen (a story) and animals (the truth). 1/27-Today we went to the movies and the Pre K students were in the movies. They were queens, kings, movie stars and daddys. It was wonderful and we used the smart board in the Science/Tech Lab to watch the movies. After we walked down the pretend red carpet, we had a lesson on opposites. Ask about the Zebra voting. 2/3-We went to the greenhouse and saw the pumpkin plants but while we were there, we saw Canadian Geese flying over us. It was very exciting. After we watched them for a while, we went back to Mrs. Meier's room and looked at the fish for a while. It was really a great day. 2/17-We actually studied the ABC's but in a science way. We had a wonderful book and we picked a letter and we found an animal in the book that started with that letter---the book had wonderful pictures of the animals also. 2/24-Mr. Beau was in for Mrs. Meier and he came down and read a book about our bodies. We have been learning so much about the clothes we wear is was time to learn a little about where they go and how our bodies work. 3/3-We watched a movie on Hot Air Balloons. We watched it on a large screen in Mrs. Meier's room. 3/10-We did not meet because Mrs. Meier took the 3rd and 4th grade to Kateri. 3/17-We had a visitor and we read a book about Trout being made out of trees. Mrs. Burg found us the book. HAPPY SPRING!!!!!!!!!!! 4/7-Spring is here and we planted some seeds to do our first lab report. Data will be collected each week for the next four weeks. 4/14-We met briefly as it was the day of the Pet Show. We saw how our plants were doing. 4/21-We met today to look at our project. We can not really say anymore as it is a secret. 4/28-We did our secret project again. BUT today we also looked at a recycling program on the Smart Board in Mrs. Meier's room. Next week we may play it. 5/5-We finailized our project. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY MOM. 5/12-Today was a very exciting class, all the fish were gone from Mrs. Meier's room. They all went back to their mommy's in the river. Mrs. Meier has one new fish but only one. 5/19-We played with Sammy's Science House and went to the workshop or create new animals. We worked very hard and loved playing with that program. 5/26-Today we viewed a wonderful film on a duck going from an egg to a duck and a frog that started as an egg and ended as a frog. Eggs are very intereting. 6/2-We worked on Sammy's Science House again. We love that program. 6/9-The last day of school. The children will stay in their class and not come to Science Tech. Junior Kindergarten - Mrs. Genovese and Mrs. Cannizzo	HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! 1/4-Today was M day. Mrs. Genovese (who used to be Miss Miller) and Mrs. Cannizzo brough up the kids and Mrs. Meier had on Mittens. We watched the fish (there had to be Millions) and then we played Millie's Math House. Boy, there was a lot of M's. 1/11-We played on Sammy's Science House. 1/25-We are working on learning the parts of our bodies in our classroom. Today in Science/Tech we tried on Body Aprons and talked about all the organs on them. 2/1-We played a recycling game on the computers. Mrs. Meier said that we would also be able to play it on Thursday night. 2/8-We played on a website that had many vehicles that are used by our Community Helpers. We were able to make up new cars and trucks, it was very funny. 2/22-We painted pictures on line. We had to be patient in order to do this but we were able to paint on the computer. 3/1-In honor of Dr. Suess, we went to a web site called Suessville. We had a great time. 3/8-We talked about the two different kinds of eggs we have seen in Mrs. Meier's room. The trout eggs and the chick eggs from last year. One is small and one is big. We saw books that the older students had written about them both. 3/15-Play Day!!!! HAPPY SPRING!!!!!!!!!!! 4/12-We spent the first day together planting. It was a great day. 4/19-We actually all had green leaves in our pots from last weeks planting. We learned to draw our "data" for our lab report. 4/26-We did not meet because Mrs. Meier went to Kateri Environmental Center with the Second Graders. 5/3-We finalized our projects for Mother's Day. 5/10-We talked about the fish going back to the stream. We also used many types of software. The students picked what they wanted to play. They know so many that they can really get excited about playing what they want. 5/17-Mrs. Meier gave us our lab reports to take home. We also watched a film about farm animals but not the ones you think of all the time. 5/24-Mrs. Vargas was with us because Mrs. Meier was at Kateri catching frogs. Mrs. Vargas let us play with our choice of software. It was great. 6/7-Our last class and we were able to work on our choice of software. Many of the students have played many different things each week that we have been able to choose. Have a Wonderful Summer!!!!!
Kindergarten - Mrs. Geissler and Mrs. Ashbaugh	HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! 1/5-It is time for dinosaurs in Kindergarten and today we did a game on the computer where we could make known dinosaurs or design our own. It was an interesting class. 1/12-We played Trudy's Time and Place House and visited the world. 1/19-We painted on the computer on a web site that had many pages of dinosaurs. You had to have patience and we all did very well. The site is www.enchantedlearning.com and you go to Paint on Line. 1/26-We "worked" again today on Trudy's Time and Place House but it was "Free" day and we could do anything we wanted. Some of us played in the computer sandbox, others traveled the world, and yet others did some time telling on a digital and analog clock. We were very busy and happy to have a "Free" day. 2/2-We talked about Dental Health Month. We decided that we could do many things to keep our teeth clean and healthy. We started and experiment (a Lab) to see what happens to our teeth when we drink a lot of soda. We set up the lab this week but will finish it next week. 2/9-We found out what soda does to the egg (our teeth) we even tried to brush the egg with tooth paste to clean it up----it did not work. 2/23-Mr. Beau read us Mrs. Meier's favorite children's book. There are so many favorite books it is hard to choose. 3/2-We worked on a Website called NASA Kids CLUB---it is really great. 3/9-Because of special request, we again worked on the NASA Website. 3/16-We worked on paint on the computer and made a space picture. HAPPY SPRING!!!!!!!!! 4/6-Spring is here and we planted some seeds. We will watch them grow but we will continue our other curriculum as well. Today we made a painting on the computer about our favorite book. 4/13-We met in two different groups. One of the groups went to the greenhouse to check out our plants. The other group stayed in the class and learned more about the fish. Shortly the fish will be put in a river. 4/20-We have a lot going on, today we looked at our project but we also talked about Earth Day. Mrs. Meier had a great book about Animals in the Rainforest. It had 3-D animals that Mrs. Meier made for us. 4/27-We checked our plants and played Sammy's Science House. 5/4-We checked our plants and got them ready to give them to mom for Mother's Day. 5/11-Today we were able to decide for oursleves which software program we will use. It was great fun. 5/18-We pretended we were ants at a picnic with one of our software programs that we have in the Science Tech room. 5/25-Another free choice day---we love free choice days. 6/1-By popular vote we are going to paint on the computer. 6/8-Another free choice day and a discussion will occur so they will know what to look forward to in Fall.
