THE DAILY SCOOP
Please feel free to use this page to get the scoop on what assignments your child is responsible for in my class.
If you have any questions that come-up anytime during the year, please contact me at 345-3381.

TO UP-DATE YOU: 2009-2010

The minimum requirements for independent reading is 20-30 minutes a day (5 days a week).

Studies show that by reading more, we become better readers and writers. I require all of my students to read (a book of their choice) nightly for at least twenty minutes. After completing their book, students need to fill out a book review for the class to read. They also have a bookmark to fill in the time, number of pages, date, etc., after they read nightly. They will also need to answer a JOURNAL RESPONSE question each week. I will collect the bookmarks every two weeks.

Standards for bookmarks: All standards are for the TWO weeks.

4--> more than 200 mins PLUS: Journal Response
3--> 200 mins PLUS: Journal Response
2--> 140-180 mins PLUS: Journal Response
1--> 120 mins PLUS: Journal Response

The second trimester of writing begins on 11/30. Students have the writing prompts and the standards in their L/A notebooks and they are on their laptops. Writings for the week are due on Fridays as soon as they come to class. Students may turn in up to three writings per week but no more than three with the exception of the week they turn in their long piece. On this week they are allowed to turn in four writings.

Students should also complete a book recommendation for each independent book they read. The recommendations are complied in a notebook for other students to use when they are looking for a book to read.
